Mexicali Cops
I wrote a story about the Mexican cop who located and arrested the Nebraska school teacher that ran off with her 13-year old student to Mexicali months before the story broke out in the national media. And I depicted him a bit differently than the way the Associated Press did.

This was one of my favorite stories. He’s unapologetic for what goes on behind those bars. The frustrating thing about being in this area is you wonder who really cares. And why don’t they care? And what can we do as reporters to make them care.
Sometimes the stories don’t get nearly the attention they deserve. Is it the publication’s limited reach or the inattentive residents that are to blame?
